NATIONAL SEMINAR-2022

The Research and Postgraduate Department of Hindi and IQAC of St. Thomas College, Palai, in collaboration with Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, organized a Two-Day National Seminar on “Sahitya mein Dalit, Adivasi aur Stree Vimarsh” on 22 and 23 August,2022.

The Seminar commenced at 10.00 am, with an Inaugural ceremony. The Keynote speaker of the Seminar, Dr. Bhajrangihari Tiwari, Professor of Delhi University, lighted the lamp and inaugurated the programme. In his Inaugural address, Dr. Bhajrangihari Tiwari discoursed that Dalit literature can be comprehended only when experiences, agitation and a sense of authority are clearly realized. Prof. Dr. James John, Principal of St. Thomas College, Palai presided over the function. Dr. Kochurani Joseph, Head of the Department of Hindi, delivered the Welcome Speech. Prof. Joji Alex and Dr. Davis Xavier, the Vice-Principals of the College and IQAC Co-ordinator, Dr. Thomas V. Mathew felicitated. Dr. Dinimol N.D, Faculty member of the Department of Hindi was the Convenor of the Seminar. Around 200 Faculty members, Research scholars and Students attended the National Seminar. Dr. Anish Cyriac, Faculty member of the Department of Hindi proposed Vote of thanks.

After the Inaugural ceremony, Dr. Tiwari delivered the Keynote address on the topic “Jal Vimarsh” in the context of Dalit literature at Amrut Mahotsav. Dr.Kochurani Joseph presided over the session. At the end of the session, Dr. Dinimol N.D, Convenor of the Seminar, proposed Vote of thanks. The afternoon session began at 1.30.p.m. Dr. Poornima R, Assistant Professor, Department of Hindi, Sree Sankara Vidhyaapeedam chaired the Paper Presentation session. Teachers from various Colleges presented their paper.

On the second day, the forenoon session commenced at 9.00 am with a Paper presentation session chaired by Dr. P. K. Ajithkumar, Associate Professor, Department of Hindi, NSS College, Changanassery. Prof. Dr. R. Jayachandran of the University of Kerala was the Keynote speaker of the second day of the National Seminar. At 10.00 am, he conferred on the topic “Hindi Sahitya mein Vividh Vimarsh: Ek Paridrushya”. At 11.30 am, Paper Presentation Sessions resumed. The sessions were arranged simultaneously in 2 venues, St. Joseph’s Hall and Tisserant Hall. Dr. A. S. Sumesh, Associate Professor, Department of Hindi, M.E.S College, Nedumkandam and Dr. Radhamani C, Assistant Professor, Department of Hindi, Maharajas College chaired the sessions, which continued during afternoon too. They moderated the sessions and made remarks about the presentations.

The Valedictory function was held at 3 pm. Dr. C. M. Sreejith, the Controller of Examinations of Mahatma Gandhi University and Prof. Dr. Roy Joseph, Associate Professor, Department of Hindi, S.B. College, Changanassery were the Chief guests of the function. Dr. Davis Xavier, Vice-Principal of St. Thomas College, Palai expressed his joy and congratulated the faculty members of the Department of Hindi, for organizing the National Seminar. 55 papers were presented by the Teachers and Research Scholars from various Colleges. The proceedings of the Seminar will be published in a book with ISBN Number. 5 participants gave their feedback with regard to the conduct of the National Seminar. The organizers were appreciated for their efforts. The Valedictory function of the Two-Day National Seminar concluded with a Vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Dinimol N.D, Convenor of the Seminar.

1. Hindi Fortnight Celebrations

As part of the national Hindi fortnight celebrations from 14th September to 27th September Dr. Mahesh Chandra from U.P was the chief guest. Principal Dr. Sunny Joseph presided over the function. Rev. Dr. James John Mangalath, the Vice-principal and Dr. K.M Mathew, the former HoD offered felicitations. Dr. V.V. Georgekutty, the HoD welcomed the gathering and Dr. Mathew Thomas, the chief coordinator proposed vote of thanks. Dr. C.K James and Dr. P.D George were the coordinators.
