Programmes 2021-22

Invited Talk on Mental Health

  • Research and PG Department of chemistry conducted an Invited talk on Mental Health on December 20, 2022. Dr. Jerry Antony, Assistant Professor, PG department of Psychiatry, Amala Institute of Medical Sciences Thrissur was the resource person. Rev. Dr. James John, the College Principal Inaugurated the programme. Dr. Sunny kuriakose, HOD and Prof. Jogy Alex, associate Professor of the Department felicitated.

SCIENTIA 2022

  • Research and PG Department of chemistry conducted an all Kerala Science quiz competition for College students, SCIENTIA 2022 on 23-03-2022. In the preliminary round 12 teams from various Colleges participated, from which five teams are selected to the final. – and – from – college won the first prize of Rs.3000 and ever rolling trophy. Dr. G.D. Gem Mathew, the retired professor from the Department of Chemistry, St. Thomas College Palai was the quiz master.
  • Ms. Sneha Jiji, the student from II M.Sc. delivered welcome speech in the valedictory function. Dr. G.D. Mathew distributed prizes to the winners. Ms. Jaisy from II M.Sc. delivered vote of thanks. Mr. Manjesh Mathew, Assistant Professor of the Department was the staff coordinator of the programme.

Programmes 2022-23

Chemistry Association 2022 Inauguration

  • The inauguration of chemistry association activities for the year 2022-23 was held on 9th November 2022. Mr. Manjesh Mathew, Director of chemistry association welcomed the gathering and Mr. Jogy Alex, Vice Principal and Head of the department presided over the function. Rev. Dr. James John, Principal delivered the keynote address. Prof. George Francis, former Head of Chemistry department of our college inaugurated the Association activities. Various cultural programmes were also conducted.

Invited Talk

  • Chemistry Association organised an invited talk on Basics of quantum Chemistry on 9th November 2022. The resource person was Prof. George Francis, former Head of Chemistry Department of the College. Dr. Thomas V Mathew, Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry introduced the resource person. 94 students participated in the talk.

CHEMIX 2.0 (Science Exhibition and Working Model Competition for College and School Students)

  • Research and Postgraduate Department of Chemistry St. Thomas College Palai organised two day Innovative Science Exhibition and Working model competition, Chemix 2.0 on January 31 2023. The event consists of exhibitions, live demos, and hands on experiments. It was intended to cultivate a passion for chemistry and to inculcating enthusiasm in Science.
  • The programme was inaugurated by College Principal Rev. Prof. Dr. James John on 31st January at 9.30 am on a function presided by the Head of the Department Prof. Jogy Alex. Mr. Abraham K Samuel, the Director of DSS, M.G. University Kottayam was the chief guest of the function.
  • More than twenty five live experiments and many models were arranged in the exhibition. I PG, II PG and III DC students of the college conducted and explained the experiments under the guidance of teachers. Mr. Manjesh Mathew, Assistant Professor of the Department coordinated the programme.
  • We conducted Innovative Science working model competition for the School students. 13 teams from various Schools Participated in the programme. Rev. Sr. Jilly James, the Head of the Department of Chemistry, Alphonsa College Palai distributed prizes to the winners.
  • Students from Alphonsa College Palai, Deva Matha College Kuravilangadu, and St. George College Aruvithura and almost 500 students from various Schools attended the programme along with the teachers. Spot games conducted by the students added flavour to the event.
  • The innovative working model competition helped the students for perceiving or discovering the new or better way to compete in an industry and launch them into the market.
