Association Inauguration

On the 23rd of November 2022, at 10 AM, in the prestigious St. Joseph’s Hall, St. Thomas College, Palai, witnessed the grand inauguration of the Botany Association, a momentous occasion graced by distinguished individuals and brimming with intellectual and cultural richness. The event commenced with a profound presidential address by our esteemed Principal, Prof. Fr. James John Mangalath, who set a tone of academic excellence for the year ahead. The inauguration featured Dr. Sebastian Joseph, a retired Professor from the Department of History at UC College, Aluva, as the Chief Guest. His captivating talk on 'Plant Sciences and Empire Making: Roots of Colonialism' left the audience enlightened. The felicitation of Sharon Paul for securing the 1st Rank in BSc Botany in 2022 was a testament to our commitment to academic excellence. Additionally, the event showcased the remarkable talents of our department's students through a cultural program aimed at enhancing their skills. Mr. Paul V. Karamthanam, the Head of the Department, extended his felicitations to the attendees, highlighting the collaborative efforts that made this event possible. Praveen CV, the Association President, played a pivotal role in ensuring the success of the inauguration. The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Mr. Aravindan MV, our secretary, who recognized the efforts of all involved in organizing this exceptional event. The Inauguration of the Botany Association marked the beginning of a promising academic year, fostering a renewed sense of purpose and enthusiasm among our students, promising a year filled with exciting events, research, and academic growth in the field of Botany at St. Thomas College, Palai.

Onam Celebration and Cultural Programs

The Onam Celebration and Cultural Programs of 2022, held on the 2nd of September at the Department of Botany, St. Thomas College Palai, were a joyous and vibrant occasion. Students came together to celebrate Onam with great enthusiasm and spirit, participating in numerous cultural programs and competitions. They showcased their creativity by constructing a beautiful "Pookkalam" adorned with a variety of vibrant flowers, transforming the department into a fragrant oasis with floral garlands. The melodious strains of "onapattu" resonated through the air, adding to the festive atmosphere. To honor and celebrate Kerala's rich culture, students came dressed in traditional attire, which not only added to the festive ambiance but also emphasized the importance of preserving and passing down our cultural heritage. This celebration not only upheld the rich cultural traditions of Kerala but also fostered a sense of unity and togetherness among the students, marking a memorable and culturally enriching event.

Christmas Celebration and cultural programs

The Christmas Celebration and Cultural Programs of 2022, held on December 23rd at the Department of Botany, St. Thomas College Palai, were a delightful and festive occasion. Students participated enthusiastically in various cultural programs and competitions, showcasing their diverse talents. The students added a touch of Christmas magic by dressing up as Santa Claus, which brought smiles and laughter to the event. The department and classrooms were beautifully adorned with Christmas decorations, while a Christmas tree took center stage, adorned with sparkling ornaments. A charming crib added to the festive ambiance. The melodious notes of carol songs filled the air, and students actively participated in carol competitions, demonstrating their vocal talents. In addition to the Christmas spirit, students also showcased their skills in various extracurricular activities, making this celebration a vibrant and memorable event that truly captured the joy and unity of the holiday season.
