Anti Narcotic Club

The Anti – Narcotic Club was formed in the college with the express purpose of organizing programmes like campus, workshops, seminars, campaigns, pamphlet distribution etc. against alcoholism and drug abuse among various sections of society, and the youth of today in particular. The club has largely succeeded in bringing the campus community to a proper understanding of the issues involved in the use of alcohol and drugs. Notice boards have been put up at various locations in the campus to exhibit literature on this social evil. Articles, slogans, words of wisdom, cartoons, materials downloaded from the internet etc. are exhibited.

Formal inauguration of the activities of the Anti-Narcotic Club for the current year was held on 8 August 2009. Mr. K.J. Mathew IAS, former Chief Secretary, Government of Kerala, and a former student of the College, inaugurated the club activities of the year. Dr. K. K. Jose, Principal, presided over the meeting. It was followed by an orientation programme by Rev, Fr. John Abraham of TRADA, Kottayam.

A poster/college designing competition was conducted on 14 August 2009 for the students of the college on the theme Drug Addiction- A social Evil 50 students took part in the competition and prizes were awarded to the best posters.

The club also launched a fund collection drive among the students to provide aid to the poor and the abandoned during the Onam festival season. Clothes were also collected. The money and the dress items were donated to the inmates of Maria Sadanam, Pala on 24 September 2009. The club members also served coffee and snacks to the inmates and staged variety entertainment programmes to share the love and joy of Onam.

The Anti –Narcotic Club in collaboration with Mahatma Gandhi University conducted a three-day intercollegiate leadership camp on Lifeskill Training for Prevention of Addiction, during 26-28 November, 2009. The camp was intended to prepare the students for promoting a society free from the menace of alcohol and drug abuse. 45 students, from six affiliated colleges of the M.G. University, participated in the programme. The camp was inaugurated by Dr. Cyriac Thomas, former Vice Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi University. Classes were engaged by experts from TRADA, a well known de-addiction centre in Kottayam, human resources development experts and teachers from various colleges. There were ten sessions, apart from the inaugural and valedictory sessions. On the second day of the camp, the participants took a pledge to refrain from alcohol and drug abuse and to work earnestly for promoting an addiction-free society.  

Another major activity of the Club was the organization of the inaugural function of the Anti-Narcotic Week celebrations under the auspices of the K.C.B.C. Madayavirudha Samithi on 25 June 2009. The programems was inaugurated by Mar. Joseph Kallarangatt, Bishop of Pala. The Most Rev. Dr. Sebastian Thekketheceheril, Bishop of Vijayapuram and Chairman of KCBC Madyavirudha Samithi, presided over the function Dr. K.K. Jose, Principal, Rev. Fr. Jacob Vellamaruthunkal, Sri. Prasad Kuruvilla and Ms. Shalu Jose offered felicitations on the occasion.

The directors of the Anti –Narcotic Club are Prof. C.J. John and Dr. Sunny Kuriakose. The president Mr. Ajo. P. Jose the secretary Ms. Shalu Jose, the Vice-President Mr. Jobin George and the Treasurer Mr. Jose Joseph and all the members are proud of their Club’s track record in reaching out to the community at large with the message of nephalism and abstinence from drugs.
