Department Of Physics
Since its inception in 1950, the Department of Physics has remained dedicated to achieving excellence in both teaching and research. The department comprises 8 devoted faculty members, 3 non-teaching staff members, and is furnished with 3 research laboratories along with state-of-the-art instrument facilities that cater to a diverse range of research endeavors. The Department has organized a series of International Materials Science Conferences in 2012 and 2016, which are considered as the largest materials science conferences, marked by the participation of Bharat Ratna Prof. C N R Rao, the then Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Committee to the Prime Minister of India, Nobel Laureates Prof. Ada E Yonath and Prof. Dr. Klaus von Klitzing, and more than 500 scholars from 30 countries. The faculty members of the department have individual projects to their credit, securing around 1.5 crores from various funding agencies. The department was upgraded to a full-fledged research department in 2000, and our research laboratory has guided 20 scholars toward their Ph.D. 12 of our students got admission to various American Universities for fully funded PhD programs from the year 2020 till today. They earn an average scholarship of 1.3 crore. Our notable alumni include Mr. Roshy Augustine, Honorable Minister for Irrigation, Government of Kerala Dr. Zakir T Thomas, IRS, Principal Commissioner, Income Tax, Bangalore, Dr. M.D. Mathew, Former Scientist, Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR) Kalpakkom. The Department aims to foster curiosity and innovation in the fields of science and technology.
