Welcome to the Centre for Human Resource Development (CHRD), St. Thomas College Palai!

The Centre for Human Resource Development (CHRD), formerly known as Career and Placement Cell, was established to encourage, guide counsel and train the students of the College to become competent professionals and leaders to serve the nation most efficiently and effectively with the highest level of commitment, honesty, loyalty and integrity.

CHRD is committed to facilitating meaningful training and placement that complement academic learning, foster industry-academia collaborations, and equip students with essential skills and knowledge for acquiring successful positions in Multinational Corporations (MNCs), Scientific Organizations, Media Houses, NGOs and the like.

Vision

CHRD aims to cultivate a dynamic and inclusive campus placement ecosystem that empowers all the eligible and interested students of St. Thomas College, Palai with fulfilling career opportunities through a robust and comprehensive training and campus placement processes.

Functions of CHRD

  • CHRD is established to organize and execute various career oriented human resource development activities specially for the students of St. Thomas College, Palai and also for outsiders.
  • CHRD aims to have constant contact with corporate entities that can be potential employers of the students at St. Thomas College, Palai, to ensure that a significant number of in-campus and off-campus placements are taken place during each academic year.

Department-level Placement Committee

To facilitate human resource development training and placement related activities for the students, a ‘Department Level Placement Committee’ is formed in each department. The Ex-officio chairman of the committee is the Head of the Department. A teacher nominated by the Head of the Department is ‘Department Level Placement Coordinator’, who shall be the convener of the committee. Two students from each class are also nominated to be members of the committee.

  • Orientation Programmes

Induction:

To Sync students with the activities of CHRD, a general induction program is organized for the parents and students taking new admissions to the College. Department-wise Placement Induction programme is conducted for the final students preparing for placements to familiarise them with the general guidelines to be followed while participating in campus placements, Placement etiquettes, basic skill set to be acquired etc..

Career Counselling:

Personalized One-to-one counseling sessions are designed to help students make informed decisions about their careers. The session helps students explore various career options in their domain, Set Career Goals, and gain access to ongoing support from the CHRD.

Professional Development:

Various programs like workshops and seminars, networking events, finishing school, and industry partnerships are organized to go beyond the traditional coursework to provide practical skills, industry insights, and networking opportunities that prepare students for success in today’s dynamic job market.

  • Corporate Relations

Internships:

Prospective internship opportunities offered by MNC’s and Research organizations relevant to various departments in the college are identified by CHRD. MOU between the College and prospective organisations capable of offering relevant internships to students are also facilitated to ensure quality internship opportunities.

Industrial Visits:

Students are provided with first hand exposure to industry environments through our facilitated industrial visits.

Industrial Collaborations:

Meaningful partnerships are fostered by CHRD to provide students with unique opportunities for collaboration, innovation, and career advancement. A full-time Corporate Relations Officer works in this regard to help students gain access in industries to Internships, Job opportunities, Research and Development Projects, Guest Lectures, Workshops, professional Networking and Innovation.

  • Training and Development

Soft Skill Development:

Daily training sessions for soft skill development cover the basic skill set required in Campus Recruitments including Communication skills, Confidence building, and Teamwork Workshops and training programs are also organized department-wise to cater to the specific needs.

Employability Enhancement:

Workshops are organized to get students familiar with various career domains and industries like the IT Sector, Banking, and Finance, Business Process Services, Govt Jobs etc..

Competitive Examination Preparation:

A career bulletin is published every week that notifies all govt job notifications relevant to the students. Coaching is also arranged to help students prepare and crack various competitive examinations.

  • Placement Activities

Campus Recruitments: Campus Recruitments are conducted exclusively for our students in various domains like IT Sector, Banking and Finance, Business Process Services, Sales and Marketing etc… both virtually and on campus.

Off-Campus Placements: Students are also informed and encouraged to participate in various off-campus drives conducted by companies.

Pooled Recruitment Drives: We host various Pool Campus Drives giving opportunities to students from nearby colleges as well. Students are also given opportunities to participate in pool Campus Drives organized by various MNCs in nearby Colleges so that our students do not miss any opportunity to get hired.

Job Fair: Mega Job Fairs are organized in association with government employability Enhancement Centres offering thousands of Job opportunities to our students as well as the public.

Placement Process

  • CHRD shall announce each campus recruitment programme through a specific and detailed notification. Eligibility criteria for the recruitment, compensation packages, service details, job description, mode of application, due date of application, etc. shall be part of the notification.
  • The details of the applicants, if necessary, shall be verified with the help of department level placement coordinators.
  • Companies will be asked to have a pre-placement talk where they shall present job descriptions, compensation packages, and company culture before the recruitment process.
  • The College always stands for transparent selection procedures to allow fair competition through standardized tests, group discussions, and individual interviews.
  • CHRD shall provide post-placement support to the newly recruited students.

General terms and conditions

  • When the applications are invited for any campus recruitments, the students must make sure that they are eligible for those positions before they submit the application. If any student is found to have applied for any campus recruitment drive without ensuring eligibility, he/she will not be allowed to participate in any further campus recruitment processes.
  • Students are advised to check the company profile and background thoroughly before applying. Once applied, it is mandatory for the student to participate in the entire placement process. Students not adhering to the above will be liable for appropriate disciplinary action as deemed fit by the appropriate committee.
  • All communication with the recruiting company/organization should be routed through the CHRD. Direct communication from the students to the recruiters is strictly prohibited unless allowed expressly.
  • Participation in the recruitment drive is exclusively for the eligible candidates who are interested to join the company if they are finally selected.
  • The recruiting companies are categorized into ‘Group A’, ‘Group B’, ‘Group C’ and ‘Group D’. The categorization is based on different criteria including the annual CTC offered, past recruitments, frequency of visits of the company to the campus, and demands raised by the company. The information about the category of the company which conducts the campus recruitment drive will be part of the campus drive notification.
  • Generally, the students must join the company/organization which provisionally selects them first. Once, the final selection list by a company/organization is published, the selected students cannot appear for any other recruitment drives organized in the college by either the CHRD or any Departments. However, students placed in ‘Group B’ companies can appear for the recruitment drives by ‘Group A’ companies and those placed in ‘Group C’ companies can appear for the recruitment drives by ‘Group A’ and ‘Group B’ companies. Anyway, those students who got placements in ‘Group A’ companies never be allowed to appear for any other campus recruitment drives, under any circumstances. However, ‘Group D’ companies are open for all, even for those who are not enrolled students.
  • If any student decides to reject the job offer from the recruiter, he/she will not be allowed to appear for any further campus recruitment drives.
  • After successful registration, if students fail to appear for the recruitment drive without obtaining prior written approval from the appropriate authority, those students will not be allowed to appear for any other recruitment drives under any circumstances
