Department Of Biochemistry
The Department of Biochemistry, established in 1976, has consistently strengthened its academic and research profile over the years. Despite its relatively small size, the Department fosters a welcoming and accessible environment, encouraging collegiality among students and faculty. Its close collaborations with prominent institutions both in India and internationally offer a broad range of expertise and experience, enriching the Department’s educational and research capabilities.
The Department provides complimentary Biochemistry classes for students who select Biochemistry as a subsidiary subject, covering the fundamental principles of the field. Additionally, it offers Minor courses in Biochemistry as well as multidisciplinary courses that integrate Biochemistry with other scientific disciplines.
The research groups within the Department focus on studying the structure of biological macromolecules, exploring the mechanisms that govern their function, and investigating potential applications in research technology and medicine. The Department has successfully completed eight government and industry-sponsored projects and has published more than 45 research articles in prestigious international peer-reviewed journals.
Furthermore, the Department has organized over 35 academic programs, including two national seminars and four international seminars, demonstrating its active role in academic outreach and contribution to the broader scientific community.
